Summer Reading | What I Read in July 2024
1984 by George Orwell
I listened to this exact version on Audible. I am an Andrew Garfield fan, loved everything I've seen him in. This was no different! This is a classic I have crossed off my list, one of those must read books. This was incredibly well done and honestly frightening to listen to. A dystopian world where everything, even your thoughts are controlled and Big Brother is always watching. This book provoked many conversations after listening.
The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron
I have just started this 12 week course. I will have a blog post for each week of the course to track my progress. My goal is to commit to it, even if I fall behind or post a day late. I want to finish the full 12 weeks and see if it actually has an impact on my life. First week went well, I’ll be sharing more in depth about that later this week! I purchased a physical copy of this book because I plan to write & highlight in it. I thought it paired nicely with The Creative Act I’m currently listening to.
The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
This was my favorite to listen to in the shower lol The clarity my mind has when water is running and someone is speaking wisdom is unmatched. I am able to forget about my day, tune out the noise, forget about the outside world and allow messages to come through. I do believe there’s something so spiritual about water, I surely have a connection to it. This book really feeds into The Artists Way and communicates how being creative is an act of being. Art is not solely for making content, making money, fame, winning competitions, or anything of the sort. Sometimes you need to finish the painting, just to move on to the next one, as each painting is a step stone to get you to the next project. One of many profound statements in this book hit me in a way that just really resonated. The book described a bee pollinating one flower and moving on to the next. It is pollinating by traveling to different flowers, but its not trying to create anything even though the pollination is in fact the act of creation. The bee is not trying to create, it is just beeing. 🐝
