Nostalgic Shows I’m Binging

I’ve been watching lots of old shows that are new to me! I love the nostalgia hat comes from it, from the quality of the cameras to the y2k looks, outfits and overall vibes! As someone who grew up with basic cable, no DVR, no unlimited channels, I didn’t get to watch all the shows that were airing during the 2000s. I couldn’t record shows and watch them later, I had to essentially just watch whatever I could after school before my moms husband came home because then the TV was no longer mine. Here are a few shows I’ve been binging this fall season.

Teen Mom OG

I pretty much watched Teen Mom until I realized they have new teen moms each season and like most people I really found a deep interest in the original four moms which is when I switched over to Teen Mom OG. I’m several seasons in and its been amazing to watch their lives as they teens and their babies grow. I must say this show is amazing birth control if you are on the fence about having children.

It has definitely given me clarity about certain issues such as adoption. For me personally, adoption is not an option. Not to say people should not adopt because they definitely should, especially if you are struggling with fertility, I highly encourage adoption rather than going to such great lengths to have children medically/biologically. There are plenty of kids in foster care that need loving safe homes so I think adoption is great, but for myself personally if I were to get pregnant I couldnt opt fro placing my child. I just know for me I would regret adoption as it seems Tyler and Catelyn do; I’m sure they don’t regret doing what they believed was providing the best possible life for their daughter Carly, but they do seem to regret it in the sense that they wish they had her, knowing that their lives shaped up pretty well after the show and they were able to provide a better life for her too. It’s the emotional regret knowing they love their daughter but dont have the ideal situation to be able to see her grow up and get to know her. I don’t judge anyone who decides to place their children for adoption, but I know for myself personally I would rather keep the baby or opt for an early term abortion in the circumstance of rape.

Roseanne

The original Roseanne show is iconic. It was the only show that truly depicted a real life working class family and the beauty of a mundane lifestyle. The characters, their personalities, the chemistry between them, the story line and how it progresses, the settings and environment, all perfect. The way the show is set up like a play, everything about this show is magical. The intro theme song is something that immediately brings me into this cozy, safe, familiar place in my mind and watching it is like reading a story you cant put down.

Hell’s Kitchen

We are zooming through these fast but they are so deliciously good! I’m trying to not look online to avoid spoilers but I am surprised the show has gone on for as long as it has! Some of Gordon’s interactions are brutal and I would think run a fine line between TV drama and harassment.

Some insults he hurdles at the contestants are discriminative, misogynistic, demeaning and downright mean. I can totally feel the frustration of working in the kitchen with people who are not pulling their own weight but man his tactics are rough. I would be crying in the kitchen if I was a contestant lol you have to have some thick skin to be on that show to deal with Gordon, but it does make some great TV.
