September Reads
I took a little break from reading this summer, I just had so much going on I did not have the energy to get into a book. With the weather cooling off and everything starting to feel cozy, it has ignited my inner book worm again and I’ve been back at it! Here are some books I’ve read this fall
16 Lighthouse Road
— by Debbie Macomber
This book reminds me of Gilmore Girls in the way that the towns people of Cedar Cove, like Stars Hallow, are all interconnected and you can see how everyone is somehow or another involved in their lives. With many loveable characters and interesting story lines to follow, this book is intriguing with normal life, mundane drama, which is what I prefer. I love realistic stories that people can relate to that will pull at all the emotions while reading. This is a series and I will definitely be reading the entire series.
This Will Be Funny Later
— by Jenny Pentland
This one is written by Roseanne Barr’s real daughter. Watching the original show in tandem with reading this book gave a lot of insight to the behind the scenes real life of Roseanne as she is playing her character on screen. Jenny had described the show as a PG, watered down version of their real life and as she shares details you can see what she means. There are undertones of their real-life weaved throughout the show. For example, in season 1 (1988) Tom had kissed Roseanne and it was a story line where she was worried it meant something more and scared of what Dan would think, and ended up meaning nothing.
In season 2 (1989) Jackie had slept with Arnie, and I remember Roseanne making a comment to Dan about how Jackie and Nancy were in a “I slept with Arnie club that I can’t even join! You know what I mean” which is very interesting because within that year, real life Roseanne cheated on her husband Bill Pentland (Jenny’s dad) with Tom Arnold, the actor who plays Arnie, and ended up divorcing Bill and marrying Tom in 1990, 1 day after the divorce was finalized. I would have not put these pieces together had I not read this while re-watching Roseanne and seeing the characters chemistry at play. I highly recommend this book if you are a Roseanne fan and want the behind the scenes scoop from the view of one of her daughters.
